OpenDNS
OpenDNS provides a free recursive DNS network, which is a different service than the authoritative providers listed on this site. They provide a completely redundant network utilizing IP Anycast with multiple Tier 1 providers in each node location. They promote a fast network due to the tens of millions of zones they cache, resulting in quick resolution. Stats are given on the most visited sites and which blocked sites people on your network are attempting to visit. They also provide web content filtering of 50 categories, and anti phishing technology. They provide online support for technical questions and issues.

I changed our company over to OpenDNS’ recursive platform last year after reading a lot about it. Its helped out a lot with monitoring the sites for the employees. Resolution speed is fairly normal, nothing crazy, but over all a good product. Seems to be very secure as well.

Using OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 instead of Google DNS 8.8.8.8 immediately got back my #facebook access in Vietnam. A new Google DNS fail: it could not resolve facebook.com just like domestic Vietnamese DNS servers.

This is NOT a DNS hosting service. It’s an alternative to your ISP’s DNS, or Google’s anycast DNS service.

Sure it is. It’s a Recursive DNS hosting service. The rest are Authoritative services.

OpenDNS has provided me with a first line of internet security for years, and is highly regarded & praised, and recommended to others. For my (low) level of knowledge, the combination of your service and of Sophos provides me stress-free access to the ‘net, which I believe is adequate for normal usage. Many thanks, indeed.
